Overview

Totara AI-powered features provide early-stage new and experimental features designed to enhance Totara Suite with cutting-edge capabilities. Given the rapid pace of innovation in AI technology, these plugins will continuously evolve, improve, and adapt to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
In order to support the integration of rapidly evolving AI technology within the Totara Suite environment these plugins are delivered independently to Totara Suite.
Plugins delivering AI-powered features are not developed to the same rigorous SDLC and quality control standards that Totara Suite is, nor can they be supported in the same way. Pace of innovation requires progressive improvement and delivery.

Access to AI plugins

AI plugins are not distributed as a part of the Totara Suite distribution. They must be downloaded and installed separately.

All Totara Partners with access to the Totara Suite source code via Git will automatically gain access to AI plugins starting with the release of Totara 19.1.0. Partners can directly include these plugins during customer upgrades as desired.

No additional approval or special request is required to access AI plugins.

Getting started with AI plugins

AI plugins are available for sites running Totara 19.1.0 or later releases.

Support, feature requests and lifecycle

Totara Partners can obtain support for AI plugins via the Totara help desk.

Feature requests for new capabilities or enhancements to existing AI plugins can be submitted through Canny.

In order to keep pace with AI advancement, future continued use of these plugins may be dependent upon improvements to Totara Suite that would be included in future major and minor releases. Upgrading Totara Suite may be necessary in some circumstances.

When necessary and where possible, partners will be advised of necessary upgrades via the Product and Technology workspace in Totara Community.

Release process

AI plugins will follow semantic versioning to ensure clarity regarding compatibility and feature changes. However, unlike Totara Suite releases, AI plugins will follow their own independent release cadence. This enables Totara AI-powered features to respond quickly to technological advancements and maintain alignment with current best practices and innovations in the AI domain.

All plugin dependencies, changes, and improvements will be explicitly captured in code and detailed within the plugin changelogs. Updates to AI plugins will be published and distributed on an as-needed basis, separate from Totara Suite’s primary release schedule.

Changelogs will be made available to partners through the Product and Technical updates workspace in Totara Community.
