How to change the certificate sender

How is the sender of a certificate decided?

Problem

It is not immediately obvious how to set the sender address of certificate delivered by email.

Solution

Totara will set the sender of each certificate by following these steps:

1. Totara will look for users with the 'moodle/course:update' capability
2. The first user to be found with that capability will be used, based on the following criteria:
   1. Closest role assignment context to the certificate activity – roles assigned in course context beat roles assigned at category or system
   2. Highest role sortorder - if there is more than one role assigned at the closest context, whichever role comes first in the list of roles wins
   3. Oldest role assignment - if there is more than one user assigned to the winning role, the user who was assigned first wins
3. If no users are found with 'moodle/course:update' capability, then Totara will use the Site Administrator as the sender of the certificate.
